Intro

10-11 March 2016, Ispra, Italy

FSO_3183

Recording disaster damage and loss data among EU countries according to International initiatives: Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, EU Flood and INSPIRE Directives, COP21 and Sustainable Development Goals.

The objectives of the seventh meeting of the EU expert working group on disaster damage and loss data were:

  • Discuss requirements from 2nd meeting of Open-ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group (OIEWG) on Indicators and Terminology for Disaster Risk Reduction relating to Sendai Framework 2015-2030, and implications on existing national loss databases;

  • Identify how the Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC) can help Member States through its Support Service;
  • Discuss the role of National Disaster Risk Management agencies, National Statistical Offices, JRC, DRMKC, EUROSTAT, and other stakeholders to collect and share data in the short and mid-term.

The workshop gathered 30 experts from Member states and international organisations. It followed on the success of previous meetings since 2013, ascertaining the commitment of the expert working group towards addressing the challenges set forward by the new Union Civil Protection Legislation and the recently adopted Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
