11th - 12th October 2012 Ispra, Italy
The 2nd JRC ECML workshop on map interaction took place in the European Crisis Management Laboratory (ECML) of the European Commission Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy, from 11 to 12 October 2012. The purpose was the presentation, demonstration, and exploration of the following map interaction techniques and devices in the context of a crisis management room:

- 3DConnexion SpaceNavigator

- Eye-tracker for gaze interaction (courtesy of SRLABS)
- Mouse & keyboard
Goals
- Benchmarking of available solutions in ECML via predefined basic tasks e.g., find, explore, relate, measure, present, …
- Discussion of benefits / shortcomings of HCI devices
- Preparation of JRC report on:
- Which interaction technique is suitable for what task?
- Which map application is needed for what duty?
- What is the status quo of map interaction?
- What are the limitations and what are future development needs?
