Modern society has faced a growing number of complex and interconnected challenges, from climate change, natural hazards, wars, to a range of anthropogenic industrial, economic and environmental threats. To obtain better understanding of how to analyse the risks, Disaster and Emergency Management course at Coventry University will host a series of 8 online training seminars between October and November 2023, with the support from the Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC) and the Cooperation Network of Risk, Safety and Security studies (CONRIS).
The training seminars series is embedded as part of the year 2 module ‘Risk’ at Coventry University, which will reflect on current application of risk assessment and explore the possibilities for understanding the complexity of the multiple hazard risks and their interventions. Participants will be given the opportunity to consider a variety of disaster risk management tools and strategies, from not only European perspectives but further reaching out to global context. The initiatives of solutions to risks of modern life can be seen as part of global citizenship development for students.
Detail programmes are listed in the table below. We welcome students and staff from CONRIS partner universities to participate in the seminars. Professionals and officers involved in risk management and civil protection are also welcome. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance if they have joined at least 6 seminars.
