Risk Data Hub Workshop

Intro

The EC Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre (DRMKC) in collaboration with DG ECHO is organizing a virtual training session on the Risk Data Hub on the 15th of June.

The aim of the training is to familiarize the different stakeholders with the functionalities available in the Risk Data Hub. The purpose is to train the users on how to best exploit the data and information available in the platform in order to meet risk management related obligations agreed under the UCPM , the Sendai Framework reporting as well as the SDGs: e.g. Disaster Loss Databases, National Risk Assessment , Risk Management Plans, Sendai Framework and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that are related to disaster risk reduction.

The training event is open to local, national authorities involved in National Risk Assessments, the institutions dealing with financial risk and disaster impacts on the financial sector, the technical staff in local /national authorities responsible for the collection and recording of disaster loss data.

Participants are expected to have basic understanding of Risk Assessment methods and concepts, experience in dealing with geospatial data and with Geographic Information Systems , basic knowledge of statistics.

Background

The DRMKC Risk Data Hub started its development to provide a concrete solution to the identified gaps and needs in terms of European-wide, multi-hazard and across scale assessments of exposure, vulnerability, impacts and risks. This web-based platform facilitates the collection, storage, aggregation and analysis of data to provide answers to different EU Policies and international agreements. The Risk Data Hub aims to develop an EU wide harmonized approach for multi-hazard risk assessment as well as for recording and managing the disaster loss data.

The DRMKC Risk Data Hub enables and stimulates a collective and integrated approach to risk management based on shared methodologies across different communities (practitioners, policy-makers and scientists) and across different geographical scales (from the local up to the Global). Each community is invited to share and to profit from this possibility of working together. The web-based platform includes the structure of an all-hazards database and the possibility for local/national authorities to manage it in total independency.

The training event will cover the different modules available in the Risk Data Hub including the methodology underlying the risk assessment module and guidance on how to use the platform for generating analytical reports.
