INFORM subnational model of Eswatini

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Eswatini worked closely with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) unit and INFORM partners to create the Subnational INFORM model for Eswatini. This initiative includes an approved conceptual framework and plan for a regional model covering all SADC Member States.
NDMA Eswatini will use the INFORM Subnational index for Eswatini as a baseline for our disaster response planning to help us quickly and efficiently compare new assessment results with this new multi hazard model.
NDMA will also use the results to plan for disaster risk reduction initiatives by having a detailed understanding of composite risk down to the tinkhundla level, which is our administrative level 3 boundaries.
The model also allows us to quickly use various parts of the model - such as the capacity dimension - to create an evidence-based understanding of the various components of risk in a new way, while also seeing how these dimensions interact and combine to create an overall picture of subnational risk.
The support from partners such as MapAction, SADC DRR Unit, UNDP and GIZ was crucial to this project.
